Juliet Gordon Low’s Girl Scouts organization will celebrate 100 years in 2012, but already, Savannah and the surrounding areas are gearing up to commemorate this wonderful occasion.

The Tybee Island Marine Science Center will offer a two-hour Coastal Georgia Badge Program for Brownie to Ambassador Girl Scouts. Groups can select from two programs: The Beach Program or the Marsh Program, and then select from a Sand Sifting or Seining activity, PLUS a Coastal Gallery Tour.

Tybee Vacation Rentals (TVR) is growing and we’d like you to meet our outstanding staff. Over the next few weeks, we will introduce members of our personnel “family.”

Our first member is Robert Pena, Guest Accounts Manager and while this is his official title, everyone knows that Robert holds the place together. Robert joined the company in 2002 and in fact, he was the first employee outside of family members Carrie Efird and Amy Gaster who started the company with just 2 properties in 2000.

Because of his longevity with TVR, Robert knows every in-and-out of the company–how it works, what works, what doesn’t, and he knows the properties. He knows the owners, who’s owned what, who sold what, and what shape the properties are in. He knows the whole picture for properties, from inception, to housekeeping, to maintenance, to reservations, to paying accounts, and taking care of vendor and owner checks, because at one point, he’s done it all! Always the gentleman, Robert is cool, calm, collected and thorough when it comes to making reservations because he knows so much.

With his quiet demeanor and dry wit and sense of humor, Robert adds much to the working atmosphere of TVR. Always ready to answer questions and help in any way he can, he is a valuable friend to all, especially new employees who are learning the ropes. Also, he’s ready to stay late to get whatever needs to be done, done.

For his personal side, Robert is a movie buff. There isn’t a film he hasn’t seen, an actor he doesn’t know, a plot he can’t figure out when you’re searching for the name of a movie. He looks beyond the surface to study the acting, the direction, the plot line and the connections–just a true lover of film. He also excels in knowing music. Again, there isn’t a song Robert doesn’t know, knows who did it, and when. He’s a true cultural connoisseur.

This renovated, 4 bedroom beach cottage is perfect for a family vacation, and custom touches can be found throughout this modernized historic Tybee cottage, which is also PET FRIENDLY. It is located just a short stroll from the beach and from Memorial Park which has playground, tennis, basketball, volleyball, Library, gym, and YMCA. The ground level of the home has a sitting room, kitchen and dining area, half bath, and the master suite. The second level has 3 bedrooms, family room, and a full guest bath.

The kitchen features all stainless appliances and a table seating for six. Additional dining space is located on the screened porch directly off the kitchen. Accessed from the porch is a laundry room with a washer and dryer and an extra full-size refrigerator. The master suite is furnished with a King size bed, 20 in flat screen TV with Bluray player, Bose CD player/radio, and a full bath with a large walk-in shower (no tub).

The family room on the second level has a 32in flat screen TV and a Twin Daybed for extra sleeping capacity (fireplace is decorative only). Off the family room is a Queen guest bedroom, and two guest bedrooms furnished with Double beds. There is a full bath located on this floor with a beautiful claw foot soaking tub (no shower, includes a hand shower attachment).

The outdoor amenities of Guiding Light Cottageinclude a fenced back yard, seating area with chimnea (outdoor fireplace), gas grill, charcoal grill, and an outside shower with both hot and cold water.

This home contains many extras including WIFI, Bose iPod dock, books, and more! Off-Street Parking for 3 regular size vehicles. Guiding Light Cottage is pet friendly for 1 dog less than 25 lbs.

This 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is currently undergoing select improvements which will include granite counter-tops and a new sink in the kitchen, removal of all carpet and refinishing of hardwood floors underneath, some new furniture (including a brand new Queen sleeper sofa), and more.

Imagine enjoying your breakfast at sunrise on your own private oceanfront deck. Georgia Sunrise is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath single-family home located mid-island on a private lane. You will be just a short 2 block walk from Memorial Park which features volleyball, tennis, basketball courts, playground, library, gym, and YMCA.

The main level of the home is located up one flight of stairs for maximum views over the sand dunes of the ocean. The kitchen, dining, and living areas are all open to each other with a decorative (non-working) fireplace separating the dining and living areas in the center. There are large sliding glass doors off the space with offer ocean views over the expansive deck area. The open floor plan feels even more spacious because of the vaulted ceilings in the space. The dining area will seat 6 at the table and 3 at the bar. The kitchen includes all appliances including a dishwasher and full-size washer and dryer. The living room features a new Queen sleeper sofa and a 42in flat screen TV with built-in DVD player.

The 3 bedrooms can be found off a hall which runs parallel to the living spaces. The first has a King bed and a 32in flat screen TV, the second is furnished with 2 Twin beds and a 27in TV with VHS and DVD player, and the third has a Queen bed and a 24in flat screen TV with built-in DVD player. There is one full bath located in the main part of the home.

On the ground level of the property, in the center of the carport, you will find an additional full bath with stand-up shower, toilet, and sink. It has the feeling of an outdoor space but offers privacy and is very convenient when you are going to or coming back from the beach.

The best amenity this home offers is the large oceanfront sun deck which will include built-in bench seating, table with 4 chairs for outdoor dining, and a gas grill. When you are ready to head to the beach there is a walking path over the sand dunes located right next door to the house which all the residents on this private lane use. Many guests (especially elderly ones) may prefer to walk 1 block to the public beach boardwalk/crossover at 7th Street.
