Girl Scout Itinerary

Published by Tybee Concierge under Activities, Community Links, Historic Savannah, Kids and Families, Places to Stay, Tours

Bringing a Girl Scout troop to the area? Let me make some suggestions on an itinerary. These can be combined, subtracted from or added to depending on your needs.

First, I suggest you stay at the beach. Any scout would LOVE the beach, and you can rent a house with a kitchen, living room, TV and so forth. The kitchen can save you money on meals as you can cook your own. Maybe have the girls earn a badge by cooking in the kitchen. Why eat pizza at the foot of the bed!!!! Come to the beach and rent a house. Call Tybee Vacation Rentals at 877.214.7353.

Day 1 - arrive and check in – probably go down to beach as girls will want to see it. We have an Arby’s on the island where you can eat. Not sure about your budget but we have some fun places to eat, as well. I will list those at the end of this blog.

Day 2 -  Continue Reading »

Tybee Vacation Rentals Adds New Properties

Published by Tybee Concierge under Pet Friendly Vacation Rentals, Places to Stay, Vacation Rentals on Tybee Island

Tybee Vacation Rentals is growing by leaps and bounds! They’ve added at least fifteen new properties to their roster, most of which are ready for rentals.

With names like Georgia Sunrise, Barrier Islander, and Wheel House, the properties offer guests a getaway with home-like amenities. As one guest said, “why eat pizza at the foot of a bed, when you can have a kitchen and a table with chairs.” Here are some examples of our bright, new stars.

Barrier Islander, newly updated, offers 4 bedrooms with only a 1 block walk the beach. It sleeps 10 (!) and has a terrific screened in porch off of the kitchen with a view of the parade routes. It has 3 bathrooms, 3 parking spaces, and WIFI, plus a grill, outdoor shower and a Blueray player.

Want to have a view of the Ocean? Take a look at Georgia Sunrise, a 3 bedroom beauty with a view of the water, and a path to the beach. It sleeps 8, Continue Reading »

Tybee Cottages – Cozy & Fun

Published by Tybee Concierge under Places to Stay, Vacation Rentals on Tybee Island

One of the charms of Tybee Island is that fact that there are many historic cottages still left over from the early days. Tybee’s history dates back to the 1700’s when Gen. James Edward Oglethorpe built a lookout tower to watch for the Spanish who were in Florida. But it wasn’t until the late 1800’s that Tybee came into its own as a “resort” and fun vacation destination. D.G. Purse convinced the railroad to build a track from Savannah to Tybee and the rich began coming out to frolic, fish, and have fun. They began to build themselves small “cottage” type homes to stay in when they visited, saving costs in staying at hotels and boarding houses. These cottages took on an architecture all their own that can now only be found here on the East Coast.

The cottages are usually built up off the ground, have shallow-hipped roofs, deep porches all around, made of heart-pine (a kind of wood termites do not like) and faced the East to take advantage of the ocean breezes. They are charming, historic, cozy and delightful.

Some years back, a Tybee islander, Jane Coslick, began refurbishing the cottages, remodeling them on the inside to have the modern amenities, and painting them bright and fun colors, making them whimsical and charming. Her work has been featured in magazines and books.

Tybee Vacation Rentals has a myriad of these wonderful cottages for your vacation stay. With names like Sea Biscuit, Surf Puppy, Chimney Pot, and Endless Summer to name a few, the cottages provide a “fairyland” type stay on the Island. Go to our website: www.tybeevacationrentals.com and take a look at some of these lovely cottages, then book one for a truly delightful experience. Or call 877.468.1654.

Girl Scouts Celebrate

Published by Tybee Concierge under Historic Savannah, Places to Stay, Tours

On March 12, 2012 Savannah and the world will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts. A Savannah native, Ms. Juliet Gordon Low started the now famous group in her carriage house with 18 young girls, including her niece, Daisy. From that small group a world-wide, worthy organization came into being and made a difference in hundreds of lives.

Were you a Scout? Why not make plans to come to Savannah to celebrate. Get your old troop back together and make it a girl’s weekend. Visit the founding place, Juliet’s girlhood home, her haunts, her homes and her churches. Hear her stories, feel her presence in her gardens and see her art.

Tales of the South can put together a great weekend for your group that focuses on Scouting. And you can stay at the beach which is only 20 minutes away from Savannah, and get the best of both worlds. Tybee Vacation Rentals can set you up in a home or condo that no matter where you stay, you are only minutes from a beach and only 20 minutes from Girl Scout history. Go to www.tybeevacationrentals.com and check out our site, or call us at 877.468.1654 and talk to an agent.
