Girl Scout Tea

Published by Tybee Concierge under Activities, Community Links, Educational Activities, Kids and Families, Tours

Want to do something different with your Girl Scout Troop while in Savannah? Bring them to historic Bryson Hall to meet “Juliet Gordon Low” and have her show them the etiquette of tea and serving it. In Juliet’s day, Savannahians had tea just about every afternoon and there was an art to it. The right cups, the right tea, the right way to serve it, the right way to drink it–these were important if you were to be accepted in local society. Let Tales of the South arrange a tea for your group  which will include the tea and service, tea “sandwiches” for the children and others for the adults, a Juliet Gordon Low character, an interactive discussion about tea and the historic venue.

The Tea can be combined with the Savannah Safari Tour, which is an interactive walk through Savannah. The tour takes about 1 1/2 hours and the Scouts look for historic markers, fill in their souvenir book, and learn about history, Juliet Gordon Low’s town, and what the animal statues represent. This is a good way to combine history and the beauty of Savannah in a fun, interactive way for the students.

For these activities call Tales of the South at 912.660.3555.

Girl Scout Itinerary

Published by Tybee Concierge under Activities, Community Links, Historic Savannah, Kids and Families, Places to Stay, Tours

Bringing a Girl Scout troop to the area? Let me make some suggestions on an itinerary. These can be combined, subtracted from or added to depending on your needs.

First, I suggest you stay at the beach. Any scout would LOVE the beach, and you can rent a house with a kitchen, living room, TV and so forth. The kitchen can save you money on meals as you can cook your own. Maybe have the girls earn a badge by cooking in the kitchen. Why eat pizza at the foot of the bed!!!! Come to the beach and rent a house. Call Tybee Vacation Rentals at 877.214.7353.

Day 1 - arrive and check in – probably go down to beach as girls will want to see it. We have an Arby’s on the island where you can eat. Not sure about your budget but we have some fun places to eat, as well. I will list those at the end of this blog.

Day 2 -  Continue Reading »

Tybee Stars Raise Funds for the Tybee Post Theater

Published by Tybee Concierge under Activities, Community Links

OK Stars, get ready, set, GO! Starting Oct. 3rd, and running until Jan. 8, 2011, Tybee’s seven “stars” will compete to raise money for the Tybee Post Theater. Each star will host “fun-raising” events to secure funds to restore the Theater. The public will also have the opportunity to contribute to the cause by voting for their favorite “star”–each $1 represents one vote.

Who are the stars? Come to the kick-off party and find out. Kickoff is Sun., Oct.3rd from 3-6 at Marlin Monroe’s.

Tybee’s Post Theater was built in 1923 as part of Ft. Screven. When the fort was closed around 1945, the theater sat silent and deteriorated. Now island residents are raising money to restore this beautiful building for use as a theater once more.

The events will take place from October 3rd through January 8, 2011 and the schedule of events, places and times will be posted on www.tybeestars.com.
