Last evening at the 2010 Breezy Awards, Tybee Vacation Rentals was named best Vacation Rental Company on Tybee Island, GA! Breezy Awards are voted on by the residents and guests of Tybee Island, Georgia, an island located about 20 miles from Savannah, Georgia, and are in conjunction with the publication, Tybee Breeze.
Ms. Amy Gaster and Ms. Carrie Efird are owners of the popular company and say that their business has grown from just two properties 10 years ago to some 140 today. They strive to stay on top of technology, marketing their company by internet, I-Pod ads, Facebook, a blog site, and more, and they hired a Marketing Director to promote the company and keep it at the forefront of the industry. They hired a Concierge to provide guests with reservations, information, guests assistance and generally any service that guests require; they brought their housekeeping services in house; hired a full time maintenance manager with two on-site assistants; hired a Owner Relations Manager to work closely with owners; and more. In short, Ms. Efird and Gaster have worked hard to bring their company to the top.
TVR also works closely with other Vacation Rentals companies on the island, being a member of TIARA – Tybee Island Association of Rental Agents. “We’re in great company,” said Ms. Street, Concierge for the company, “we all work together for the betterment of the entire Island and we’re honored to be chosen out of so many great companies.”

The City of Tybee Island, Georgia, is extremely pleased to announce the designation of Tybee Island as a Better Home Town Community under the Georgia Main Street Program.
A statement from the Georgia’s Department of Community Affairs noted, “The state Main Street program is delighted to welcome Tybee Island into our program. The city has demonstrated that they understand Main Street principles, and their board and volunteers are doing an outstanding job in supporting small businesses and job creation in the community.”
Tybee Mayor Jason Buelterman was enthusiastic about achieving Better Home Town status. “This is a wonderful distinction for our community and a testament to the hard work and dedication of many Tybee volunteers and City staff members. We look forward to continuing our work as we strive to become a more favorable climate in which to live and operate businesses.” “I am extremely proud to have the opportunity to work with the City of Tybee, business owners and residents who have joined together to make becoming a Better Hometown Community a reality,” Ms. Morton said after receiving notification of acceptance. “The volunteer attitude on the Island is truly amazing, and the efforts to work as a team continue to prove successful! Receiving the designation is validation of the work by many to maintain the quality of life through a healthy business corridor and to enhance the cultural experience while preserving this barrier island’s heritage.”
Congratulations to Chantel Morton, our Better Hometown Coordinator, to Jonathan Lynn, director of Tybee’s Economic Development Department, to the Better Hometown Board of Directors, and to Mayor, Council, staff, and volunteers – we all knew already that Tybee is a Better Home Town!

Tybee Island had gained 3 new accolades, adding to the already-long list of awards. We received the Reader’s Choice Awards from Georgia Magazine for the following:
Best Beach Destination
Best Small Town to Live In
Best Seafood Restaurant – Crab Shack on Tybee Island
and our upcoming Pirate Fest weekend was mentioned too! We were also featured on the cover, and had extensive inside photos.

The Tybee Island Historical Society was recently awarded two prestigious awards to pay tribute to the restoration of the Lighthouse Complex.
The AASLH, a prestigious organization headquartered in Nashville, TN is making the presentations as part of its annual meeting which will take place in Indianapolis. Indiana. The awards are: The Award of Merit which recognizes excellence for projects, and the WOW Award, an additional honor for Merit winners that reflects a highly inspirational accomplishment. Tybee is one of only four WOW award recipients this year.
The Society’s awards are due in large measure to their director, Cullen Chambers, who has worked tirelessly to accomplish: the lighthouse renovation, the headkeeper’s house renovation, the lst assistant’s cottage renovation, the 2nd assistant’s cottage renovation, as well as the newly completed museum renovation. Under his leadership, the Lighthouse has also increased visitor attendance from 50,000 in 1994 to 170,000 in 2007.
