December Shop and Stroll/Campfire Marshmallow Roast

Published by Tybee Concierge under Activities, Attractions, Shopping

Tybee’s first annual Shop and Stroll was a smash success. What bargains! What fun! Every shop outdid themselves in presenting the best and brightest. Santa greeted everyone and Tybee Vacation Rentals’ picture booth was a hoot! The annual event was a smash success and next year will be even better. Plan on next year to  shop the shops, meet the neighbors, stop in the businesses for bargains and deals and eat and be merry. They’ll be santa, drawings for prizes and surprises.

Art on Tybee

Published by Tybee Concierge under Activities, Shopping

Do you love art? We have it in all kinds of forms.

Art Classes - Every Mon. and Thurs. mornings the Tybee Arts Association gives classes in the old Teen Center. If you join the art association the cost is only $15 per session–a bargain in that the teacher is professionally trained artist, Denise Vernon. Her work is shown in several galleries and she often is commissioned to do private pieces. Not only is Ms. Vernon available, but the class has several other professional artists that also give guidance, instruction and commentary to the work of all students. Oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, chalk–are all taught–choose your genre. The classes frun 9:30 am to noon. Call 912-786-5726.

Tybee has several galleries featuring local and professional artists. Want a really nice souvenier from your Tybee trip? Buy a piece of art–it will remind you of your time at Tybee, and provide years of pleasure no matter where you are. Galleries include:

There are eclectic gifts, handmade arts and craft items, unusual seaside knick knacks and wonderful one-of-a-kind pieces. Visit River Street. Historic River Street features Factor’s Walk where merchants stood on bridges and judged the cotton that rolled by underneath; the Waving Girl statue of Ms. Florence Martus who waived at every ship that came into Savannah for 44 years; the monument to the slave trade with an inscription by Maya Angelou; and streets made of the ballast stones from ships entering the harbor. Sample wonderful restaurants, especially seafood, and terrific shops including specialty and one-of-a-kind items. Sit and watch the ships come into the ports (Savannah is the 4th largest port in the nation), visit the candy shops for a free praline sample, or listen to the street performers. Take the ferry over to Hutchinson Island or hop on board The Riverboat Cruise for a ride down the Savannah River . The first Saturday of every month there is an arts and crafts fair along the river walk.
