Girl Scout Tea

Published by Tybee Concierge under Activities, Community Links, Educational Activities, Kids and Families, Tours

Want to do something different with your Girl Scout Troop while in Savannah? Bring them to historic Bryson Hall to meet “Juliet Gordon Low” and have her show them the etiquette of tea and serving it. In Juliet’s day, Savannahians had tea just about every afternoon and there was an art to it. The right cups, the right tea, the right way to serve it, the right way to drink it–these were important if you were to be accepted in local society. Let Tales of the South arrange a tea for your group  which will include the tea and service, tea “sandwiches” for the children and others for the adults, a Juliet Gordon Low character, an interactive discussion about tea and the historic venue.

The Tea can be combined with the Savannah Safari Tour, which is an interactive walk through Savannah. The tour takes about 1 1/2 hours and the Scouts look for historic markers, fill in their souvenir book, and learn about history, Juliet Gordon Low’s town, and what the animal statues represent. This is a good way to combine history and the beauty of Savannah in a fun, interactive way for the students.

For these activities call Tales of the South at 912.660.3555.

Girl Scouts Celebrate

Published by Tybee Concierge under Activities, Educational Activities, Historic Savannah

On March 12, 2012 Savannah and the world will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts. Juliet Gordon Low founded the group in Savannah, Georgia on March 12, 1912 after Sir Baden Powell refused to let her group join the Boy Scouts. He suggested she start a similar group for girls, and she did.

A remarkable woman, Ms. Low could do everything, they say, but Continue Reading »

13th Annual Tybee Island Sea Kayak Races

Published by Tybee Concierge under Activities, Ecotourism, Educational Activities, Fitness, Kayaking

Come out and enjoy nature while benefiting the Turtles of Tybee Island.

On June 4th, there will be three races and LOTS of ways to participate in the Sea Kayak Races.

The Tybee River Race is 6 1/2 miles on the back river separating Tybee and Little Tybee.
The Little Tybee challenge, about 8 miles, circumnavigates part of Little Tybee, passing through narrow tidal creeks, broad tidal rivers, open coastal areas and two surf zones.

The Race Across the River is for Gold Sponsor representatives who compete for a grand prize for the Gold Sponsor’s business or group.

This year, for the first time, you can participate in the River Race as a casual paddler–not a racer. Paddle 2 miles for the cause. If you don’t have a kayak, add $20 to your registration fee and use one of ours.

Also new this year will be a drawing for a Perception Impulse 10.0 kayak plus paddle donated by Half-Moon Outfitters. There will be three ways to get tickets: 1 ticket will be given per registration; extra tickets will be given to the race winners; and one can purchase tickets in $5, $10 or $20 lots.

WE NEED HELP. We could use volunteers for the race and to help spread the word about it. Go to www.tybeekayakrace.org or contact Debbie at tybeekayakraces@gmail.com or call 912.844.7817.
