The Savannah CraftBrew Fest will be the area’s first-ever opportunity to experience a two-day festival devoted to the craft beer lover. Meet brewers from across the US while tasting premium craft beer on beautiful Savannah Harbor. This festival offers a Friday evening craft beer and food pairing dinner focusing on Georgia beer, with proceeds benefiting Senior Citizens, Inc. On Saturday, the grand tasting event kicks off with live musical performances and a full day of craft beer tasting on the Esplanade of the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center.

Many people don’t realize that Savannah has the 4th largest container port in the United States. At 42 feet deep, the Savannah River can take 98% of the world’s ships, which means we can bring in and take out a lot of merchandise. For those who like ships, one of the most awesome sights is to sit on River Street and watch these monsters come in and out. Every Friday, the Savannah Morning News Newspaper publishes a list of ships scheduled to come in and out of the harbor, and the Concierge at Tybee Vacation Rentals keeps that schedule handy, as well.

Go to River Street, order a take-out sandwich and some fantastic candy at River Street Sweets (they’ll give free samples of Pralines, a pecan and caramel, sugary treat), and sit and watch the River and the ships. You can also see the Tugs that help the ships come in and out of the Savannah Harbor. Better yet, take the ferry across to Hutchinson Island (costs about $1) and experience life on the River yourself.

River Street Riverboat Tours - get on an old stern-wheel boat and glide up and down the Savannah River. They sail year around and they have a variety of venues: the one hour narrative tour; a dinner and entertainment cruise featuring a buffet dinner; a Gospel Dinner Cruise featuring Gospel music and southern cuisine; a lunch cruise; and a Murder Afloat mystery cruise which allows the guest to become an amateur sleuth. Horse-Drawn Carriage Tours are a great, slow way to see Savannah. Several companies do narrated historic tours and ghost tours. We recommend Carriage Tours of Savannah. Call 912.236.6756.

For another great way to see Savannah, take a walking tour. There’s no better way to see the squares than to stroll through them.
