Owner’s note: Ava and Brandon called to make reservations for two stand-up-paddle boards. At no time did they mention they had any type of voucher or gift certificate. When they came in to get their paddleboards, they presented me with a Savannah Hot Deals voucher. Savannah Hot Deals are only good for kayak rentals. I explained this to Ava and Brandon and offered them two single kayaks or a double kayak for the day. They were not satisfied. Several minutes after they left, they called and continued to verbally abuse me, saying I had a dishonest business. I told them they were dishonest for not informing us they had a voucher when they made the reservation. Savannah Hot Deals are unlike a regular gift certificate because we don’t get any money from them, only free advertising. On the Savannah Hot Deals “Terms and Conditions” it clearly states that customers must tell the business they plan on using a Savannah Hot Deals voucher and find out if there are any additional restrictions. Brandon did not inform me of the voucher when he made the reservation. Also, I just spoke with Tori from Savannah Hot Deals, and she informed me that when Ava called her, Ava was also given a gift certificate for Sting Rays. Everyone has been more than accommodating to these people; they just can’t seem to be pleased.
Additionally, neither Brandon nor Ava have ever tried to rent a kayak from us, so the first comment Ava made is incorrect. However, overbooking does happen from time to time and we do our best to work with people and get them in the water.
A Savannah Hot Deals voucher is different from a North Island Surf and Kayak Gift Certificate. A gift certificate issued by us is good for a number of things, including tours and stand-up paddleboard rentals.
At North Island, customer service is our first priority. We strive to keep people happy and do whatever we can to facilitate fun. Please come in and see for yourself.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE! We had a bad experience here two times. The first time they asked us to take two kayaks instead of the one double we reserved due to overbooking. When we said we wanted to keep the one double, the “owner” got irritated with us. The second time we went there, we reserved two paddle boards. When we went to pick them up and pay, the woman told us we couldn’t pay with a gift certificate even though the gift certificate didn’t have any restrictions listed except the expiration date and only one per person per visit. The way I saw it, she already got her money from the purchase of the certificate and thought she’d make anouther $80 on the paddle boards by making up restrictions. I don’t trust that kind of business ethics.
We had a $100 gift certificate to use there, so we reserved two paddle boards. When it was time to pay, the “owner” told us that the gift certificate could not be used for paddle boards and wanted us to pay $80 for the rental fee. We said that there were no restrictions on the gift certificate that said it wasn’t redeemable for paddle boards, but she refused to let us use it. We told her that that was a dishonest way to run a business and she said that WE were the dishonest ones for not telling them when we made the reservation that we would be paying with a gift certificate! I told her that when I make a reservation at a restaurant I am not required to inform them of how I plan to pay, so it’s wasn’t dishonest of me to not tell them my form of payment before I got there. I don’t know what she had to gain by refusing to honor the gift certificate besides the fact that she had already received the payment when the certificate was purchased and thought she could pocket more money by refusing to let us use it. Who knows.
