Tybee Wine Festival
The Friends of Tybee Theater hosted the 2nd annual Tybee Wine Festival on the grounds of the Tybee Lighthouse. They also sponsored An Evening with Oysters and Wine at Marlin Monroe’s.
The Wine festival featured over 100 international wines and tapas from the islands best restaurants, and this year they added Craft Beers and a silent auction. This event is an annual fund raiser for the Tybee Post Theatre– the old Ft. Screven theater built in 1930 and used by the military for their entertainment. After the fort closed, the theater remained unused for many years and became rundown. A local group known as the Friends of the Tybee Theater formed to raise money to bring it back to its former glory, and now the Wine Festival generates a hearty amount of funds for the restoration.
At the Lighthouse Grounds on Meddin Drive, the Festival served over 100 wines from around the world as well as craft beers. Local restaurants served samples from their menus. Papas BBQ & Seafood, Hunter House, the Breakfast Club, Fannies on the Beach, Marlin Monroe’s and Huck A Poos were just a few of the eateries serving up great fare to accompany the great wines.
Participants took a trolley ride to the theater to see the latest in the restoration and see the plans for the finished building.
Watch for next year’s event.
Sponsors to date include City of Tybee, Tybee Tourism Council, Tybee Light Station, DeSoto Beach Hotel and Devivo Marketing.
