Tybee Mardi Gras
February – Mardi Gras Tybee – Get out your masks and beads and come to Tybee Island in February for the Island Mardi Gras. Who needs New Orleans? Tybee has it all!!!!
Tybee is a natural setting for the Mardi Gras event due to its unique character and fun-loving residents. The event encompasses the traditions of Mardi Gras, an event with origins dating back to the ancient Romans and carried on today in cities such as Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana. Mardi Gras is held on the last day before the start of Lent.
Tybee dresses in an array of purple, gold and green flags depicting the Tybee Island Mardi Gras celebration. Mardi Gras Tybee includes a Fantasy Masquerade Ball where the King and Queen of the event is chosen by a costume contest. There is a grand parade down Butler Avenue and a street party with music and festivities on Tybrisa Street. Admission to the street party and parade viewing is always free. Tickets are needed for the Ball.
