Tybee Vacation Rentals’ Own Amy Gaster Named Queen of the Tybee Island Pirate Fest
Tybee Vacation Rentals’ own Ms. Amy Gaster, was named Queen of the 2009 Tybee Island Pirate Fest! This is a huge honor that recognizes Ms. Gaster’s commitment to the Island of Tybee, its businesses, tourism, and her own business that she shares with her sister, Carrie Efird. Amy chose her name: ”Queen Amelia – Mother of Pearl” for the 5th Annual Tybee Island Pirate Fest weekend which occurred October 8-10th on Tybee Island, Georgia. She is a founding member of non-profit festival organizer, Tybee Fest, and one of the original organizers of Pirate Fest. “I was thrilled to be selected as this year’s Queen,” she said. “It’s truly an honor.” Her king was “King Scullen Bones Chambers”, Executive Director Cullen Chambers of the Tybee Island Historical Society.

Amy Gaster 2009 Pirate Fest Queen
The Board of Directors of Tybee Fest seeks out local individuals who are active in both business and tourism on Tybee to receive this honor, making Amy THE front-runner for 2009 Queen. Amy’s mother, Bonnie Gaster, was named Queen in 2007, and was known as “The Queen Mum” this year.
Amy has deep roots on Tybee Island. Her grandmother grew up on Tybee and her mother Bonnie is a well known real estate broker and active member of Tybee’s business and tourism community, and was raised on Tybee. Amy’s maternal grandparents owned the old motel that was located in the campground. “Tybee lodging is in my blood,” she says. “Whenever I complained about my chores growing up, mom would say, I used to have to clean twelve toilets a day! I received no sympathy at all,” she adds.
Ms. Gaster and her sister are celebrating a 10-year anniversary in 2009 for their rental company, Tybee Vacation Rentals. With some 120+ properties, Tybee Vacation Rentals handles some 2,000 reservations per year, and uses cutting edge technology and services to provide top notch service to their guests.
The official color of Tybee Vacation Rentals was pink and Amy used it in her reign as Queen. It was a symbol for her breast cancer fund-raising campaign which she launched during the Pirate Fest to raise money for the “Save the TaTa’s” Island campaign. “I had special beads made and sold them at our tent for $5,” said Amy. She exceeded her goal of $2,000. The money went to the TaTa’s.” (Amy’s mother is a breast cancer survivor.) Amy definitely made her reign count for something.
In honor of her reign, Tybee Vacation Rentals offered specials during the Pirate Fest, had flags and beads for sale, and company employees (The Pink Pirate Brigade) marched with Queen Amelia in the Pirate Victory Parade. Amy, along with a pirate krewe traveling in from St. Augustine, made several visits to the two nursing homes on Tybee.
Amy Gaster and Cullen Chambers were crowned at the Buccaneer Ball on Thursday, October 8th at The Crab Shack.
Next year’s Pirate Fest will take place on October 7-9, 2010. Make sure you sign up for this wonderful festival.
