The Crab Shack-Where the Elite Eat in Their Bare Feet

Published by Tybee Concierge under Kids and Families, Our Partners, Tybee Restaurants, Where to Eat

A Tybee icon, the Crab Shack offers a fun time in every way. The food is fabulous and includes their famous mouth watering linquine in white clam sauce and their crab stew. They have every kind of seafood served low country style, as well as pulled chicken, pulled pork, and Brunswick stew. They have a daily lunch special for $6.99, served everyday from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. Every Tuesday is Hospitality Industry Night and from 7 pm to closing they have food and drink specials. There are full service Tiki Bars inside and out and they can seat over 600 guests. Their venue offers seating outside in their Jimmy-Buffet-type atmosphere where you can listen to the tunes of island life, or seating inside the eclectic restaurant. Parking is free.

They have things for the kids including an alligator tank where one can view the baby alligators; Captain Jack the turtle; and various wildlife.

The Crab Shack offers specials throughout the year. One of the favorites is the visit by the Junkanoo Tribe. This colorful and talented group appear in the Tybee St. Patrick’s Day parade and then nightly at the Crab Shack on that weekend. They offer a haunted house with goblins and ghoulies in October, and they sponsor the Buccaneer’s Ball in conjunction with the Pirate’s Fest Weekend on Tybee.

Wow! The Crab Shack now has an online store that accepts all major credit cards or Paypal payments. They offer their great T-shirts, gift certificates, hot sauce, spices and other Crab Shack items. The site is: www.thecrabshackstore.com .

They are located at 40 Estill Hammock Road on Tybee Island. Hours are Mon-Thurs. 11:30 am to 10:00 pm; Fri-Sun. 11:30 am to 11:00 pm. Call 912.786.9857 or visit: www.thecrabshack.com .

Trustee Garden Market

Published by Tybee Concierge under Ecotourism, Green Travel, Historic Savannah, Shopping, Uncategorized

Aaaahhhh. Fresh produce! There isn’t anything better for your table, and we have a wonderful spot for you to get the freshest: Trustee Garden Market on 10 E. Broad and Bay St. in Savannah.

In 1734, on a high bluff overlooking the Savannah River, James Oglethorpe planted a garden to nourish a young city in a new world.  In 2008, Charles Morris assumed the cultivation of Mr. Oglethorpe’s garden to nourish a great city for the the whole world.

The Market at Trustees’Garden is an effort to revitalize this rich legacy of Savannah. It is an attempt to reinvigorate the first experimental garden of the Unites States of America. Beginning in March 2010, every Wednesday, from 4:00-7:00 and every Saturday from 9:00-3:00 you can stroll this heritage garden where some of its attractions are:

  • Local Organic Farmers
  • Eco Artists
  • Live Music
  • Kids Activities
  • Local Cuisine
  • Trustees’ Garden Tours

The Market now offers kids’ activities including facepainting by the Puppet People, storytelling, arts and crafts and so forth.

Who Was Johnny Mercer?

Published by Tybee Concierge under Destination Information, Uncategorized

The Savannah Music Festival, being held March 19-April 5, is celebrating the Johnny Mercer centennial.  If you are over 50, chances are you know this celebrated songwriter, but for those of you under 50, you should know about Savannah’s native son and his impact on music. He wrote hundreds of songs and earned four Oscars for “In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening,” “The Atchinson, Topeka and the Santa Fe,” “The Days of Wine and Roses,” and “Moon River,” arguably his most popular creation. His song “Skylark” was featured in the popular movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Here’s a synposis Continue Reading »
