Exercising and Working-Out on Tybee
Do you love to work out? Love the physical exercise and don’t feel good without it? Tybee Island has many venues from which to choose to stay in shape while on vacation.
#1 – The Beach – We have 5 miles of beach on which you can walk or run. Beach exercise is great for the legs and toes as walking in sand uses different muscles. Get those toes in shape!!
#2 – YMCA – Tybee has a wonderful YMCA with a fitness and gym center. There’s a cardio room with treadmills, ellipticals, stairmasters, recumbent and spin machines. There’s a strength training room with free weights and over 20 strength training machines. There’s a full court indoor gym for basketball, volleyball, mini-bowling, badminton and so forth, plus the Y sponsors roller skating at least once a month. Hours are 5:30 am to 9:00 pm M-TH; 5:30 am to 8:30 pm FRI; 8:00 am to 6:00 pm SAT; and 1:00-5:00 pm SUN. Daily and 5-day guest passes are available. #3 - Aerobics Classes – the YMCA’s certified professionals run tone & burn, spin, senior chair aerobics, yoga, meditation, Tai Chi, cardio low impact and core fitness classes. There are also water aerobics. Call 912-786-9622 for times.
#4 - Zumba Classes – do you love to dance? Want a real workout? Go to Zumba classes at the Old School. Tues. and Thurs. at 8:00 am and Wed. night at 7:00 pm.
#5 – Tennis – we have courts located in Memorial Park open from sunrise to sunset.
#6 – Outdoor volleyball – we have sand courts located in Memorial Park open from sunrise to sunset.


I take the Zumba classes. Wow! What a workout, and it is FUN. I don’t feel “intimidated” either, as there are all ages in the class. The class is 45 min., too, so it’s not too long. If you love music, this is it!. Mary Anne
