The “Staycation”
Gas prices are high; airline costs are high; time is at a minimum; a vacation is out of the question. NOT SO!!!! Take a “Staycation”–a vacation near home.
The concept is simple: check into a local vacation rental home and enjoy down time near your own city. No waiting in airports; no high gas costs; but a vacation nonetheless.
As a concierge, I recommend a vacation home or cottage. You have space–hotel rooms are cramped and small. You have a kitchen–this helps in holding costs down as you can eat in a few meals instead of spending money in a restaurant three times a day. You can have several bedrooms–kids can go to bed early while mom and dad enjoy a movie or have a few drinks. You have the amenities of home–comfort, a refrigerator, a stove, a microwave, a DVD player, a washer/dryer. You can even bring your pets! What’s not to love about this kind of set-up? The beach is usually a destination of choice for vacationers, and Tybee Island has one. It is only 4 hours from Atlanta and only 6 from the farthest corners of the State of Georgia. It’s about 8-9 hours from Tennessee, 10-12 hours from Kentucky and 12-15 hours from Ohio. For a tank or two of gas you can have the ocean and all that comes with it. Plus, with Tybee, you get two for one as Savannah, a city on everyone’s top ten list, is only 17 miles away. You can get history, art, culture, museums, gardens, mansions, good food AND the beach for your “staycation.”
Many people lament the fact that they don’t know the city they live in, let alone their State. Why not consider getting to know where you live? Or get to know the beach closest to you.
