Weddings on Tybee
There isn’t a nicer place to get married than on the beach, except for maybe in a big mansion or perhaps outside in front of the fountain at Forsyth Park in Savannah. Our area can offer you a wide variety of places to tie the knot.
Tybee is a public beach, so if you are a small wedding party you can just go and get married (once you have the license, of course). If you have a larger wedding or will be reserving a section of the beach, you will need to get a permit from the City of Tybee Island for your wedding. If you are from out of the area, you may want to hire a wedding planner and leave the details to them.
From a small budget to a large one, the wedding planner can take care of it for you. We recommend Tales of the South. They can help you with everything for ANY BUDGET.
To obtain a Marriage License please contact the Chatham County Probate Court located in the Court House room #509 on Montgomery St. in Savannah, Ga. or Call (912) 652-7267.

Details on Special Events Permits
(From the City of Tybee Island)
Without reserving a portion of the beach to the exclusion of others: Just do it, for the beach is public.
With a portion of the beach being reserved: Requires a “Special Event” approval, since the wedding would be utilizing a portion of public property to the exclusion of others. The basic philosophy is that if the wedding is similar to the usual use of the beach, where people erect their chairs or lay their blankets, no special arrangement is necessary. However, if a portion of the beach is “reserved for exclusive use”, such as with tents, ropes, platforms, etc., then a “Special Event” occurs, requiring an application approval, possible fee, etc.
The process to obtain a permit or to make a reservation is simple. Simply go to their Special Events Planning Forms section and download the forms you need. Bring them or mail them to the City of Tybee Island Economic Development Office at Tybee City Hall along with a check to cover any fees indicated in the form; if no fees are required, you may email your completed form. Please call the Economic Development Office at (912) 786-4573, ext 127 for help or to get any questions answered.
