Parking on Tybee
Tybee is a small island, only about 2 by 3 miles; hence parking is a problem. Space is limited and you must pay wherever you park whether there are meters stationed there or not. Don’t be fooled if a meter is not at your spot–you must have paid parking notices in your window.
The rates, island-wide, are 25 cents for 10 minutes, or $1.50 per hour, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., year-round, weekends and holidays included. The meters take quarters only. At Pay and Display machines you can use nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar coins and credit cards. Simply select the amount of time you wish to park, input your money or credit card, push the button to print your receipt and place it in the dashboard of your car. Make sure it is visible. This is an efficient way to handle parking in that if you move and park somewhere else, your paid receipt goes with you and you don’t lose time or money. Multi-day passes can be purchased at the Pay-and-Display machines by adding hours till 8:00 p.m. of the current day. Additional days can be purchased by adding $18.00 at a time, to a maximum of three days.
Butler Avenue has parking places on both sides, up and down the island. There are several parking lots as well.
One is at 14th St. Go south on Butler to 14th, make a left and park in the lot.
Another lot is at the end of Tybrisa. Go south on Butler to Tybrisa and make a left. You can park along Tybrisa, in the end lot which runs the entire length of the Strand, and along the Strand. You can park on all streets that run perpendicular to the Strand at meters.
There is some very limited parking at the very end of Butler at 19th.
There is limited parking at the Back River Pier. Take Chatham Ave. to Fisherman’s Walk.
There is parking at the North Beach parking lot. From Highway 80 turn onto North Campbell and go to the “T” and make a left. Make a right on the next street, Meddin Dr. and follow it around. The parking lot entrance is next to the Tybee Museum (old Fort). There is also limited parking in front of the Museum.
