River Street
Visit River Street. Historic River Street features Factor’s Walk where merchants stood on bridges and judged the cotton that rolled by underneath; the Waving Girl statue of Ms. Florence Martus who waived at every ship that came into Savannah for 44 years; the monument to the slave trade with an inscription by Maya Angelou; and streets made of the ballast stones from ships entering the harbor. Sample wonderful restaurants, especially seafood, and terrific shops including specialty and one-of-a-kind items. Sit and watch the ships come into the ports (Savannah is the 4th largest port in the nation), visit the candy shops for a free praline sample, or listen to the street performers. Take the ferry over to Hutchinson Island or hop on board The Riverboat Cruise for a ride down the Savannah River . The first Saturday of every month there is an arts and crafts fair along the river walk.
